With over 5 years of experience in the professional cleaning industry, Whistle Clean seeks to update its website to be more engaging, accessible and informative for its clients. With a site littered with outdated components, I managed a team of 11 sorts to find a way to clean it up.
The presence of text-heavy pages, bland visuals and non-existent breadcrumbs were all too familiar design flaws for me and the team. However, our client also expected us to apply UX design elements that increase the site's score within SEO statistics. Creating an intuitive site that balanced front end and back end prioritizes required us to venture into a field outside our expertise.
Being assigned co-project manager was a chance to push my managerial skills to higher capabilities. Within this role, I shared:
With our team of 11, me and my fellow project manager assigned each member their roles and deadlines at the start of every week via Trello. We additionally, planned and hosted all our main team meetings to ensure clarity amongst the team.
To capture the core user needs and client vision, we curated our project scope to include:
The information collected from these research procedures laid a firm foundation for the project. Allowing our development period to see substantial progress. In a mere 3 days, we were able to swiftly produce a test-ready lo-fi prototype.
As per mandated protocol, all research data for usability tests had to be synthesized immediately after each session. This direct call to action played a paramount role in specifying the exact pain points and strengths needed to build a functional hi-fi wireframe in just 2 days.
With the pain points defined, we made sure our desktop prototype clearly addressed the key challenges. In our finalized prototype, we showcased the flagship solutions:
"I love the frequently asked questions. They're very handy because it makes you actually think of things you might not have thought of."
-- KATE (Usability Test Participant)
With our final product we delivered:
With immense praise, WC has looked to promote and implement the updated design of the site in a few months. The successful application of this site's new foundation will plan to house further updates. These updates will see a major focus on mobile responsiveness for greater user engagement and SEO optimization. Post-launch statics via Google Analytics will aim to examine user activity for possible design improvements.

Having the opportunity to co-manage a project supplied a lot of mixed experiences for me. The assignment to such an executive position provided a finer knowledge of how managerial responsibilities are conducted. Individually as well as with fellow project managers. The experience also boosted my confidence in seeing myself in such a role in future projects.
However, the time spent co-managing evoked extreme stress upon me. Especially as I was still prioritizing full-time work, studies and a secondary design project simultaneously. However, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The events that transpired in that month, broadened my understanding of what I truly needed to achieve personal growth.
