As an up-and-coming contender in the consultancy industry, Leading Insight focuses on providing services to the public sector. However, the company looks to stand out even more by introducing an on-demand learning platform via its official website in catering to employees who seek to advance in their careers. But with such an experimental approach to learning, how does a team of 13 execute this leftfield concept?
Leading Insight’s founder Matthew Mulrine, saw an opportunity to introduce consumer online learning curriculums. However, his initial attempts at implementing this idea were limited and ineffective. Many consultancy firms don’t provide their services to consumers. Preferring to instead collaborate with clients. With these 4 weeklong project, my team needed to broaden our horizons in how individuals learn the skills needed to advance in their careers.
Due to the unconventional nature of the project, we needed to conduct a competitor analysis exploring the trends used by 6 online learning platforms like Skillshare and Udemy. We also analyzed competing consultancy firms that were mentioned by our client. This phase of the research showcased 4 valuable insights:
Our primary research required us to out source participants working in junior to mid-level roles in the public sector. With a sample of 10 survey responses and 8 user interviews, the team and I uncovered a versatile list of user preferences for online learning:
Other findings showed that users also preferred learning curriculums with mixed use of reading and visuals.
These vital statistics showed strong potential to cater to an overlooked market that seeks personalized learning rather than the academic standard.
"Lindsey was a highly valued team member throughout our project on Leading Insight. She quickly made herself known to be a dependable member of the team that excelled in research which was guided by her knowledge of Human Centered Design. Her contributions in synthesizing and empathy mapping helped ground the team in data which helped steer the project in the right direction in which she communicated clearly to the relevant stakeholders. She is always exceeding expectations."

We prioritized creating the platform in a way that addresses the need for an accessible learning platform that’s attentive and inclusive. What we were able to construct in the development sprint was a functional prototype with a unique user experience:
A visually driven approach to learning that gets users to customize their course with the power of shapes. By placing their preferred shapes into the provided field, users can curate the specific Skills, Time and Learning Style they want to pursue. This concept will benefit in grabbing immediate attention and breaking academic stereotypes to show that learning can be fun.
Pre-made courses constructed by industry professionals for stronger legitimacy to the platform. These courses visually follow the shapes motif to retain consistency, uniqueness and attentiveness to the platform.
Provides a condensed and hyper-focused curriculum on one subject. These courses aim to invite users with a short timeframe of completion.
"Lindsey made major contributions to the project through her research and presentation skills, particularly for the midway presentation. She also volunteered valuable insights and contributions during the synthesis and ideation phases."

With the completion of the prototype, we successfully delivered a learning platform that caters to 3 segments of the target market.
Applying these course options to the platform will benefit users by:
Not only will Leading Insight plan to make the platform public within a few months, but our findings were valuable enough to present the platform to 5 national consultancy representatives.
"Lindsey gave our project so much value. Her energy kept the whole team engaged and she always had something meaningful to contribute to any conversation. Lindsey showed respect to others and was a great team member to work with. Her professional manner lifted all our presentations to the next level."

Being one of my first collaborative design projects was a fact I couldn’t overlook. Working with a team that demonstrated strong organizational skills and diligence gave me a sense of belonging that helped tremendously when transitioning from solo work to collaborative projects.
